Halloween at Hueco Tanks

I have come back to a place that I love, it is an ancient place, a sacred place, a place where spirits and humans meet. This place I’m talking about is Hueco Tanks. Located in Texas, this is a world class climbing destination, an State Historical Site, and archaeological treasure trove.

When I first came to this location in 2018 for my first climbing trip, driving down the road past the North and West Mountain, I could not help but feel truly awe inspired.  The feeling of reverence that I had I cannot be put into words.

When I was first figuring out what themes I wanted to teach, my mentor Jess Goulding, told me you can find inspiration in everything. Carry around a notebook and write down everything that you see and hear, that will serve as inspiration.

I have come to Hueco Tanks to play on the rocks, but I also hold reverence for the rock too. I will ask the land to take care of me and keep me safe, and to show respect, ask the rock permission to climb upon it. I know the rock won’t audibly answer, it is simply the action and intention behind the ritual.

This week when I climb, I want to embrace the Yamas and the Niyamas along the way. I want to enjoy the yoga in this experience.

I hope you have a safe and Happy Halloween this spooky season!
