You’re Allowed to Rest 🌙

I was reminded last week how important it is to rest.

I went on a work trip and came home only to find that I could not get out of bed the next day. I had been non-stop for the last few months with little down time to rest. I could no longer ignore what my body had been trying to tell me. I had hit a wall and my body had shut down, all I could do was sleep.

I ended up sleeping for 20 hours, and still not feeling 100% after all that sleep, the following days were all about recovering and napping. I didn’t have the energy to look at my phone or talk to anyone, so everything halted and had to wait. I had to ask for help for the simplest tasks and for someone who takes care of everyone else, I was the one who needed to be taken care of.

If you’re reading this today, you know that our clocks have fallen back an hour. This time of year I always hear people say how hard this time change is and they don’t like how early it gets dark. I don’t blame you, it’s a forced change that we are never ready for.

This is the time of year when things are starting to slow down and come to a halt. We are getting into the yin time of the year with Winter around the corner. In the wild, natural world, the plants are starting to grow dormant and the animals are preparing for hibernation. If you feel like you need to rest or you just want to stay in and do the cozy thing. Honor that and listen to your body.

It’s okay to give yourself permission to rest.
